The Jackson Sun
http://www.jacksonsun.com/civilrights/sec1_crow.shtml
This site provides an archive of articles published in The Jackson Sun, a newspaper serving the Jackson, Tennessee area. The site, which is divided into sections, is easy to navigate and provides "an enormous amount of information" in a manageable format. The articles provide "first hand accounts of the struggle for equality." While a majority of the articles are focused on the Civil Rights Movement in Jackson, Tennessee, there are a limited number of pieces "dealing with the South and the nation as a whole." A truly thought provoking section of the site asks the question "What do we do now?" It requires students to "take what they have learned and apply it." The format and content provides for collaborative activities. However, "the reader is cautioned" that the site contains phrases or language that was used during the time and that may be "offensive" to some readers.
Overall Rating: 3

The Crisis
http://www.historybuff.com/library/refcopper.html
"Historybuff.com is a well-developed Web site providing newspaper articles on a limited number of topics." There are pages of newspaper articles collected by a Mr. Rick Brown, which provide a stirring glimpse into past events. However, there is a limited amount of actual primary source material and the material would be of "limited value for original research." This site is most appropriate for collectors of old newspapers and memorabilia available through the on-line auction.
