1. Read the excerpt from defense attorney Moore's opening statement. What are his arguments concerning school funding for the segregated schools in Prince Edward County? Also, read below for a brief paraphrase of the rest of his opening statement. Discuss the text.
   
   
2. Ask the students the following:
   
   
   • How does Moore view the black population in Prince Edward County?
   • What kind of questions does Moore ask Dr. Kenneth Clark in this case? Of what significance is Dr. Clark's ethnic heritage to his testimony?
   
   
3. Write a short essay on how ideas of race are conveyed in these selections from the Prince Edward County case.
